Automotive Mechanic - Mira Loma, Ca

Summary: Reporting to the Mechanical Services Manager or designated manager, the Mechanical Technician II will perform proper diagnosis, repairs and maintenance to vehicles as assigned. Maintain consistently high standards for technical efficiency, make quality repairs and diagnostics while observing all safety requirements. Perform all duties assigned. Must know, practice and ensure that company policies and procedures and state or federal laws are followed always.
The Mechanical Technician II will perform proper diagnosis, repairs and routine maintenance to vehicles as assigned under little or no supervision. The T2 Technician must be assigned to work/train with a T3 or T4 when working a higher classification. Maintain consistently high standards for technical efficiency, make quality repairs and diagnostics while observing all safety requirements. This is a bargaining unit position.
This position performs identified maintenance and repair service on different types of vehicles. Task assignments are directed by shop management to encourage development in a productive manner.
Job Description:
Responsibilities and Duties (Key Roles) technician tasks including, but not limited to the following:
Provide prompt and courteous service:
Demonstrate friendliness and greet every person with whom they come in contact.
Maintain a professional appearance and a neat work environment consistent with the Company's Policies and Procedures.
Return customer's vehicles in clean condition with radios, seats, mirrors and other convenience items in the same position as when the customer brought the vehicle in. No smoking in customer vehicles.
Make sure customers receive prompt, efficient and courteous attention from all employees. Notify Manager of any delays or discrepancies in repair estimates.
Resolve any customer complaints in a friendly, courteous manner and advise Management of all serious complaints or incidences.
Perform assigned diagnostic repair or maintenance to the standards of the service center and factory specifications. Obtain clearance from Management whenever this cannot be done.
Look up parts to perform the service. Use parts in stock when possible and notify admins of parts that need to be saved and tagged.
Test and recheck all repairs and road test all comebacks as assigned by the Manager. Request assistance on repairs or diagnosis as needed.
Properly complete all Repair Orders including notifying admins what needs to be done.
Assist the Manager in creating a proper estimate by informing them as to discrepancies or abnormalities in time required to perform the service and parts required for the job. Recommend additional repairs needed or maintenance to the Manager (verbal or written recommendations are required).
Maintain and improve technical expertise through technical bulletins, trade publications and training seminars.
Practice and promote teamwork always. Set a good personal example of attitude and performance.
Advise the Manager or designee of all equipment breakdowns and maintenance immediately.
Make sure work area conditions do not threaten employee or customer safety. Keep work area clean and free of clutter. Sweep and pick up work area daily and dispose of junk parts and their containers appropriately. Respond to and follow proper procedures on employee and customer accidents, injuries, and loss or damage to any property. Report all incidents to the Manager or designee.
Qualifications (Education and Experience):
High School Diploma or GED preferred
Post-secondary vocational education strongly preferred
Must be able to perform all lower classifications, (Mechanic Tech I)
Require two (2) to three (3) years of experience in the field or a related area.
Must be qualified to operate a motor vehicle and possess a valid driver's license.
Must be able to drive vehicles with either standard or automatic transmissions.
Ability to understand and adhere to Company policies in all areas.
Effective Interpersonal communication skills.
Must have the ability to interact positively with others
Computer literacy preferred

Operate the system and recognize if the system is cooling or not (PM related)
Perform basic system checks such as power to compressor, visual inspection of condenser, belt tension, etc.
Identify Freon and oil leaks
Skill Area: Brakes-Air
Identify components of air brake system
Operate brakes and identify irregular noises, air leaks
Perform simple air system tests
Measure lining thickness
Adjust brakes
Measure drums, rotors, cam braking
Skill Area Brakes: Hydraulic
Road test for proper operation
Make visual inspections for leaks
Check park brake operation
Check fluid level
Measure lining thickness
Adjust service brakes
Perform brake repair

Visually inspect system for leaks
Make minor repairs such as hose replacements, fan shrouds, leaking fittings
Recognize permanent antifreezes and their requirements
Use refractometer
Use pressure tester
Flush and refill systems

Inspect and test batteries
Visually inspect cables and cranking motor
Clean the battery cables, connections and starter
Replace batteries
Charge and check batteries
Replace or repair defective cables

Repair minor wiring problems
Replace bulbs, lenses and simple light assembles
Repair minor lighting problems
Replace and adjust sealed beams
Install or replace accessories such as heated mirrors, fans, and spotlights

Change oil and filter, if required, and clean breathers

Lubricate drive line
Inspect components for wear or damage

Replace and prime fuel filter
Check gas and diesel fuel system components such as fuel lines, pickup tubes, return lines, etc. for proper integrity and condition.

Mechanic Tech I - Responsibilities and Duties

Look up parts to perform the service; use parts in stock when possible and communicate with admins of items needed.
Properly complete all work orders. Check off each job and return the work order to the Manager if all work has been completed.

Major Activities:
Will perform tire service, including proper entry on repair orders, parts stocking, mounting and dismounting of assembled wheels on vehicles.
Will be responsible for the Company's Tire program at the employee's assigned locations.
Will assist with tire inventory, stocking levels, ordering inventory and maintaining customer specific tire matrix.
Oil changes, brakes, hoses, belts,
Light bulb change and Misc.
Ability to understand and adhere to Company policies in all areas

Note: This position will not perform any major mechanical or structural repair work.
